Winner of the 2008 United Synagogue of Conservative

Judaism New Jersey Region Norman Glikin Award
 

Congregration Neve Shalom, a conservative egalitarian Jewish synagogue

in Metuchen, New Jersey has a membership of 500 families.  
 
Following a customer service best practice typically seen in the better well-run companies of the world, Neve Shalom  decided to mail out a survey to their membership to determine what the coming year’s priorities and services should be.

 

In the top 5 responses was learning or re-learning some ritual activity regarding the Jewish Sabbath Friday night rituals.

 

A small committee was formed to determine:

 

1.  How best to inform the congregation of the program

2.  The parameters and guidelines for the training

3.  How best to provide the training

4.  How best to help people continue after the training

 

The congregation’s Rabbi established a guideline for an informal 30 minute one-on-one meeting to be conducted by selected individuals based on the families’ and the trainer’s skill-set.

 

My Sales Hero, LLC participated in the discussion to provide insight into “the customer”.

 

It was determined that the requests for a meeting would likely come from those with forgotten or little background in some of the Friday evening rituals, and this group would best be served with a ‘lighter and friendlier’ lesson as a jumping off point.

 

With these parameters set, My Sales Hero, LLC advised on the announcement language, the schedule,

and the theme, as well as introducing a way to leverage the training program for other critical activity like membership drives- we would create a video that could be burned to DVD and left with the family that could also be broken up into smaller pieces and posted on the internet with information about how someone interested in membership can contact the synagogue.

 

My Sales Hero, LLC wrote the script, filmed, edited and produced the video and created the DVD label cover design.

 

Neve Shalom wanted a 'made at home' feel.  The camera shakes and there is an overlap in the audio edit at one point.  Click the play button on the right. 

 

The DVD, along with the program outline and recommended reading was submitted to the New Jersey Region of United Synagogue Conservative Judaism and received the Norman Glikin Award in November, 2008.
